A massive Antonov An-124 cargo plane landed at Jyväskylä’s Tikkakoski airfield on Friday afternoon and is scheduled to continue to Tampere–Pirkkala Airport later the same day.

A massive Antonov An-124 cargo plane landed at Jyväskylä’s Tikkakoski airfield on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. It is due to continue to Tampere–Pirkkala Airport this evening, with an estimated arrival at 5:54 p.m., YLE reported.

The aircraft arrived from Leipzig/Halle Airport; Finavia said the visit was related to the Ramstein Flag 26 exercise and described the landing as routine, not requiring special procedures. The exercise earlier brought more than 50 aircraft to Finland in June deployments.

Local resident Nea Tamminen, who happened upon the scene while jogging in Puuppola, filmed the arrival. She said roads were lined with cars for kilometres and described a "thunderous" roar followed by a gust of wind as the jet passed.

Flight-tracking sites show the An-124 is due to depart Tikkakoski around 5:30 p.m.

The Ukrainian-built An-124, first flown in 1982, previously visited Tikkakoski in early June to deliver Polish Air Force equipment for the same exercise.
