On Friday, September 4, master chefs from Pirkanmaa and the catering company Voimia will prepare a special school lunch for pupils across Tampere, serving more than 5,800 kilograms of food. Chefs will visit several schools to speak with students and observe mealtimes.
The menu highlights domestic ingredients and the role of Finnish school meals, featuring grain-fed chicken and a vegetarian sauce with potatoes, steamed carrots and traditional brined cucumbers. Potato flatbread will be sent to daycares as a snack.
The event is part of the national Eat Together theme and Voimia’s Everyone Eats! campaign, which encourage children and young people to choose the school lunch. It follows the city's free summer park lunches this summer and earlier efforts to cut preschool meal waste.
