Metso is moving its rock‑crushing production to a new Lahdesjärvi factory, freeing the Hatanpää industrial site for housing; earthworks start this summer and operations are expected in autumn 2028.

YLE reports that Metso is relocating its rock‑crushing production to a new Lahdesjärvi factory, freeing the Hatanpää industrial site for housing. Earthworks begin this summer and operations are expected in autumn 2028.

The company has approved roughly €60 million for the new crushing plant, which is part of a wider Lokomotion technology centre that will cover about 66,000 square metres. It estimates the overall programme will top €200 million, with the first phase costing around €150 million. Lokotrack crushing and screening production is slated to start at Lahdesjärvi in late 2027, and the full campus is due around 2030.

Phase one construction began in June 2024 and remains on schedule, despite a fatal accident on the worksite that year.

Markku Simula, head of the rock‑crushing business at the company, called Lokomotion the biggest industrial investment in Tampere this millennium. After the phased move from Hatanpää, Metso will vacate its old Lokomo factory area, which the city plans to redevelop for housing.
