Mobile subtitles coming to Laulavat sadepisarat and Wicked in Tampere

According to a joint press release from Tampereen Teatteri and Tampereen Työväen Teatteri, the theatres will offer Finnish and English mobile subtitles for their big autumn musical productions. Laulavat sadepisarat opens on 25 September and will carry subtitles at all Thursday and Friday evening performances, while Wicked will be subtitled at selected performances this season. The Tampereen Teatteri project is supported by partner INSTA.

Audience members can follow the subtitles on their own smart devices using the Subtitle Mobile app. The theatres recommend downloading the app before arrival.

Tampereen Työväen Teatteri plans to add audio description to the subtitled Wicked performances in spring 2027, expanding access for blind and partially sighted audience members.

Acting artistic director Hanna Suutela of Tampereen Työväen Teatteri said the technical solution opens the world of musicals to ever more viewers. Mikko Kanninen, director of Tampereen Teatteri, said the change is part of sustained joint work on accessibility.

Both theatres have also introduced broader measures to lower barriers to attendance, including more flexible ticketing options. Customers can reserve or buy tickets by contacting box offices directly. After contact, a payment link is sent by email so tickets can be paid for via online banking and received as mobile or PDF tickets.
