Moose Collisions Rise to 25 in Two Weeks in Pirkanmaa and Central Finland
Police say 25 moose collisions were recorded in two weeks across the Inner Finland police jurisdiction covering 45 municipalities; drivers are urged to be especially cautious on darkening roads as moose activity rises ahead of the hunting season starting 10 October.
Tamperelainen reported that the 25 collisions were logged across the jurisdiction of the Inner Finland police department, which covers 45 municipalities.
Senior Detective Inspector Markku Laakso said moose are especially active in autumn and that encounters are most likely in low light. "Drivers on darkening roads should exercise particular caution," he said.
Warning signs mark areas of frequent animal movement, but a moose can appear anywhere and seeing one often means others are nearby. In Pirkanmaa, the main moose hunting season begins on Saturday 10 October.
