New Kirsi Kunnaksen Daycare Opens in Ylöjärvi

Tamperelainen reports that Ylöjärvi opened Kirsi Kunnaksen Daycare in the Siltatien area this March, a 160-place facility with modern spaces and a focus on storytelling and sustainable development.

The daycare operates on four home zones with configurable, multipurpose spaces, including a hall that can host sports and evening events and can be connected to a dining area for events. The yard offers diverse activities for different age groups. The project cost around 7.6 million euros, with Rakennusliike Lapti as the main contractor. First children started in March, and the center is currently serving as temporary space for Soppeharjun daycare during renovations, with a smaller group of new children joining as well.

From August 2026 Kirsi Kunnaksen Daycare will be filled with local children, at which time it will operate with two home zones and a group for children requiring substantial support. The daycare is named after Ylöjärvi author Kirsi Kunnas; the city’s early-education chief, Kirsi Lahtinen, describes the project as not just a building but a growth environment where play, humor, storytelling, nature, safety and community intertwine, aiming to foster friendships and lifelong learning.
