Niko Ranta-aho and a relative are charged with aggravated tax fraud linked to concealed dividends from Spanish property companies, with the trial opening Tuesday at Helsinki District Court and alleged illicit gains of “hundreds of thousands of euros.”

The alleged illicit gains amount to “hundreds of thousands of euros,” and the trial opens Tuesday at Helsinki District Court, YLE reports. Niko Ranta-aho and a relative are charged with aggravated tax fraud, each facing two counts linked to conduct in Tampere between 2016 and 2020.

Prosecutors say the scheme mainly involved concealed dividends from Spanish real-estate businesses and list the Finnish Tax Administration as the injured party. Aggravated tax fraud carries a prison term of four months to four years.

Ranta-aho is already known from the Katiska drug cases, where he received a combined 13-year sentence. The National Bureau of Investigation began probing suspected tax evasion after leads surfaced in the Katiska 1 inquiry. Ilta-Sanomat reported he was granted supervised parole as a first-time offender after serving half of his sentence, much of it in pretrial detention.
