Probe Completed into Tampere Man Accused of Extortion After Flood of Complaints
A preliminary criminal inquiry into a 51-year-old Tampere man suspected of attempted extortion after more than 100 complaints and appeals over municipal plots has been completed and sent to prosecutors, YLE reports.
A preliminary criminal inquiry in Central Finland into a 51-year-old Tampere man suspected of attempted extortion has been completed, YLE reports.
The city filed a complaint late last year. It followed more than 100 correction requests and dozens of appeals to the administrative court over municipal plot reservations. He won a plot in a lottery, but a property manager decided not to reserve it for him. He has also sought over €150,000 in damages and lodged complaints against officials.
Detective Chief Inspector Sami Suhonen said the suspected offence is connected to the complaints and their handling; he declined to identify any alleged targets. The matter now moves to prosecutors for consideration of charges. YLE is not publishing the man’s name because he is a private individual. Earlier reporting said the appeals had delayed some projects earlier coverage.
