Nordic Battery Summit 2026 draws record 200 delegates to Tampere
About 200 delegates from eight countries attended the Nordic Battery Summit in Tampere on 19–20 May, the largest turnout since the event began rotating across the Nordic countries.
Participants from eight countries – Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Canada – attended the two-day Nordic Battery Summit in Tampere on 19–20 May, with roughly 200 delegates in total, Business Tampere said. It was the largest turnout since the summit began rotating across the Nordic countries.
Organisers credited the rise to growing global interest in energy storage, transmission and electrification. The mix included company representatives, researchers and policymakers; Pirkko Eteläaho of Business Tampere called it "truly valuable."
The summit opened with remarks from Ilkka Homanen of Business Finland, Hanna Brasar of Business Sweden and Benedicte Fasmer Waaler of Innovation Norway, who highlighted the Nordic region's competitive battery ecosystem. Speakers pointed to activity across the full battery value chain, from raw materials and materials production to strong demand for cells and systems, and urged closer Nordic and European cooperation.
Keynote speaker Bo Normark of EIT InnoEnergy examined global market shifts and warned that Europe risks falling behind without a united industrial strategy. "We are not acting as a united Europe, but as independent countries," he said. Other presenters covered policy across the value chain, the role of the circular economy in sustainable growth, and how digitalisation and artificial intelligence can improve battery development, predictive maintenance and lifetime optimisation.
Companies from the Tampere region were well represented, including Avant Tecno, Avant Power, Merus Power, TheStorage, CeLLife Technologies, Celltech Solutions and Enico. Twelve exhibitors showcased technologies during the joint exhibition, and organised company visits gave participants first-hand views of regional expertise in energy storage and electrification.
The summit was organised by Business Tampere together with the Nordic Battery Collaboration (Business Finland, Business Sweden and Innovation Norway), with support from Nordic Innovation and the European Battery Alliance.
