NRC Group Finland has hired about 200 infrastructure professionals so far this year as it expands into rail, electrical and energy projects, including battery storage and tramway work across Finland.

NRC Group Finland has recruited around 200 infrastructure professionals so far this year as it expands into rail, electrical systems and energy projects across Finland, the company said in a press release.

Its project portfolio now includes wind and solar farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centre and power substation work, alongside track and city infrastructure projects. The move into battery storage comes as regional demand for battery technologies has risen, a trend highlighted at the Nordic Battery Summit held in Tampere in May. "We have systematically strengthened our organisation and will continue to do so, which lets us deliver projects more efficiently together with our customers," Sami Korhonen, head of electrical and energy business, said.

The firm is also targeting growth in tramway and urban infrastructure deliveries, and in rail-sector bridge construction. Enni Laine, director of shared project operations, said NRC is engaged in large, multiyear tram and urban development alliances in Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, with roles ranging from track construction to wind park implementation. The firm's interest follows Tampere's high-profile light-rail rollout and the city's recognition earlier in May as the first Nordic Tram City in an award presented that month.

In August the firm launched a Nordic Trainee programme for candidates selected in spring. "Our 18-month Nordic Trainee programme gives recent graduates a chance to develop into specialists and future leaders through hands-on project experience," Laine said, noting trainees rotate among NRC units in Norway, Sweden and Finland for joint training and networking.

Strong second-quarter results underline the strategy. Q2 revenue was €68.2 million, up from €50.8 million in the previous period. Operating profit was €4.9 million, with an operating margin of 7.2%. Orders won nearly doubled to €104 million, compared with €56 million previously, and the order book rose to €352 million from €306 million.
