Orivesi weighs €5 million sale of half of Oriveden Aluelämpö to Loimua

Orivesi is preparing to sell its 50% stake in district heating company Oriveden Aluelämpö to Loimua for €5 million, freeing funds for core services, infrastructure projects and debt control.

The city owns 300 shares — half of the company, which has an annual turnover of about €2.1 million. Orivesi says the sale would provide the capital needed for basic services and costly environmental upgrades, including electrifying production and phasing out peat. Under the current 50–50 ownership structure the city cannot grant loans or guarantees to the firm, the city board says.

Loimua first approached Orivesi in October 2025 with a €4 million offer and returned after negotiations with a refined €5 million proposal in March. The bid includes a five-year price guarantee that limits local customer price rises to general cost development, and Loimua commits to investing in environmental targets, supply security and cost efficiency.

The city council will debate a policy stance on 6 May, and the city board will decide on a possible sale on 18 May. The details were reported by YLE.
