Patron Who Defaced Hervanta Library Banned from All Tampere Libraries for 15 Days
A patron who repeatedly defaced Hervanta Library has been banned from all Tampere city libraries for 15 days to protect staff, visitors and the collections while services continue.
Tamperelainen reported that the decision was signed by the library services director and cites the Public Libraries Act. The law allows municipalities to impose a temporary ban when a user repeatedly and substantially disrupts operations or damages property. The order covers every branch in the city library network. Officials say the customer was given a chance to explain before the exclusion and described the measure as a temporary, legally grounded step to protect staff, visitors and the collections while services continue. Tamperelainen reported the exclusion runs for 15 days and is in force until 4 November. It comes amid a wider rise in vandalism across Tampere this year that police have linked to repeat offenders.
