Parents Told to Avoid Tammerinpuisto Amid Rise in Vandalism and Drug Activity
City councillors heard that parents are being advised to keep children away from Tammerinpuisto after an increase in disturbances. The National Coalition Party demanded CCTV, better lighting and a timetable for action.
Local paper Tamperelainen reported that parents of children who use the multipurpose building beside Tammerinpuisto were sent a message advising them to avoid the park after a rise in disorder. The National Coalition Party raised the matter during Tampere city council’s question hour, saying disturbances, vandalism, intoxication and drug selling have become more common around Tammerinpuisto and the station area. The group called for swift action. It asked what measures the city will take and what role the downtown safety working group has, noting plans for CCTV and improved lighting and requesting a timetable for implementation. Mayor Ilmari Nurminen (Social Democrats) is scheduled to respond at next Monday's question hour. Tamperelainen had earlier urged parents to keep children away from Tammerinpuisto after repeated disturbances in late September.
