Bookings are open for this season’s influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations, with appointments first available for residents aged 75 and over and severely immunocompromised people.

Pirkanmaa wellbeing services (Pirha) has opened bookings for this season’s influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations across the region. Appointments are reserved first for residents aged 75 and over and people with severe immune deficiencies. The schedule allows those at highest risk to receive both flu and coronavirus shots during the same visit in late October and November, aiming for protection to be established by early December. A fuller timetable and booking details are available on Pirha’s website.

Free influenza vaccination is available to people for whom the disease poses a significant health threat or who will gain marked benefit from immunisation. Several social and health centres will run walk-in vaccination events in November for adults in risk groups. Severely immunocompromised people aged 12 and over who need a coronavirus booster may also attend walk-ins, though queues are possible. To avoid waiting, people aged 75 and over are advised to use scheduled appointments.

The campaign was discussed on Yle's Aamu on October 7; the segment is available on Yle Areena until November 5.

The campaign follows Finland's decision in May to prioritise COVID-19 boosters for the oldest age groups.
