Police dog used to subdue violent suspect after hour-long standoff in Tampere city centre
Police used a dog to subdue a person who violently resisted officers inside a private apartment in Tampere city centre after an hour-long standoff; authorities are investigating the case as violent resistance against an official.
On Saturday, police used a dog to subdue a person who violently resisted officers inside a private apartment in Tampere city centre, according to YLE.
Crime inspector Heikki Järnström of the Inland Finland Police said multiple patrols were at the scene. He said officers had spoken with the person. The individual resisted strongly, which led officers to deploy force.
The case is being investigated as violent resistance against an official, authorities said. Järnström would not disclose what injuries, if any, resulted from the police dog’s intervention. A YLE reporter at the scene saw police vehicles and an ambulance. Police have not yet interviewed those involved. The situation lasted about an hour and ended around 5 p.m.
The incident comes amid an intensified three-week police patrol in central Tampere earlier this year and recent debate among trainee officers about police use of force.
