Pyynikki Summer Theatre to premiere Kontio ja Parmas, Heikki Vihinen's social‑care comedy
Pyynikki Summer Theatre will stage the world premiere next summer of Kontio ja Parmas, an uproarious social‑care comedy by Heikki Vihinen.
Next summer Pyynikki Summer Theatre will stage the world premiere of Kontio ja Parmas, presented as Sirkka's Social Care and Peace. The uproarious, crowd-pleasing comedy reunites a familiar comic team, with a new script by Kummeli veteran Heikki Vihinen and direction by long-time comedian Riku Suokas.
The cast includes Kaisa Hela, Jari Ahola, Heikki Hela, Jouni Hynynen, Mari Perankoski and Mari Turunen. Theatre director Piia Soikkeli says Pyynikki's strong comedy tradition makes the venue a natural home for the show. The theatre has staged 86 plays over 70 years, mostly comedies, and Soikkeli promises "guaranteed laughs." Vihinen sets the story amid a Valkeakoski social and healthcare storm and local political power plays, centring on Sirkka Pohjantalo, a blunt doctor with an enthusiasm for autopsies.
Music and sound design pay tribute to Heikki Silvennoinen's influence. The announcement follows Pyynikki's recent hit Harmony Sisters, which drew about 25,700 spectators and underlined the summer theatre's strong audience appeal.
