Queues expected as Tampere’s Moomin Museum sells limited 'Winter Night's Glow' mug

Tamperelainen reports the museum will begin selling the new 'Winter Night's Glow' Moomin mug on Saturday, when the Muumimukiamania exhibition opens.

Tampere city bought 4,500 mugs for a total of €71,280, which works out to a unit cost of €15.84. The museum will sell the mug for €29.90. The exact size of the limited run has not been disclosed.

Sales will take place at two points: the museum shop and a pop-up store in the Tampere Hall lobby. Entry to the museum shop requires an admission ticket; the pop-up is open to all. Customers may buy up to six mugs each. On opening day, one purchased mug can be signed by Moomin Arabia illustrator Parvati Pillai.

Muumimukiamania traces how the ordinary mug became a cultural phenomenon and a collecting hobby. The show will present every 0.3-litre Moomin Arabia mug, a selection of other sizes, and rare pieces such as Tove Jansson’s 1950s children’s tableware and Japan-market mugs, together with Jansson’s original drawings. Curator Anu Muurinen says the exhibition is comprehensive and unique, and she expects it to draw international visitors. The exhibition runs 26 September 2026 to 5 January 2028; mug sales begin 26 September at 9:00, and the museum has published online buying instructions.

The mug reproduces a Tove Jansson gouache, and the museum will have a one-month exclusive sales window in an earlier announcement. The exhibition will include around 200 Moomin mugs and some rare collector pieces as previously reported.
