Sami Savio to Step Down, Will Not Seek Re-election Next Spring
Three-term Finns Party MP Sami Savio said he will not seek re-election in next spring's parliamentary election.
Sami Savio, a three-term Finns Party MP first elected in 2015, will not stand in next spring's parliamentary election, Aamulehti reported. "It's time to focus on other things," he told Pirmediat's newspapers on Wednesday.
He was re-elected in 2019 and 2023; his personal best came in 2019 with about 11,000 votes. Savio had previously stood unsuccessfully in 2007 and 2011.
A former member of Ylöjärvi city council, Savio has moved to Tampere. Born in 1975, he holds master's degrees in philosophy, engineering and economics.
Aamulehti said it had been unable to reach Savio for further comment on his decision.
The announcement comes as the Finns Party builds its Pirkanmaa slate, with former Tampere deputy mayor Ilkka Sasi recently joining the party's candidate list, and follows a recent regional survey showing nine of 13 Pirkanmaa MPs who replied say they will run again.
