Smoking Sauna Stove Sets Off Building Alarm in Ylöjärvi

A malfunctioning sauna stove began smoking while being heated in Metsäkylä on Monday evening, prompting the Pirkanmaa Rescue Department to receive an alarm for a medium-sized building fire on Tukkasotkantie at about 7:30 p.m., Tamperelainen reports.

Crews arriving at the scene found heavy smoke rather than flames. No one was hurt. Damage was confined to the defective stove, and crews handled the situation on site so it did not develop into a full fire.

Small, smoky stove incidents have occurred in the region before, most recently in March when a plastic container smoldered on a stove in Vuores causing a similar smoke response.
