Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra opens Tampere Filharmonia's October programme
Tampere Filharmonia opens October with Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra at Tampere-talo on 9 October, followed by chamber concerts, family events and a Finnish premiere later in the month.
Tampere will host a week of high-profile concerts in October. The week is headlined by Tampere Filharmonia's performance of Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra on 9 October in the Main Hall of Tampere-talo.
The Zarathustra programme opens with Arvo Pärt's Third Symphony. It also features Jouni Kaipainen's demanding horn concerto, with principal horn Aleksi Mäkimattila as soloist and Estonian conductor Olari Elts on the podium.
On 10 October the schedule shifts to G Livelab for chamber music, ranging from Halvorsen to Ewazen. Bohuslav Martinů's La Revue de Cuisine (Kitchen Cabaret) will be performed by a small ensemble including Maria Garcia Escudero, Ruoxuan Tang, Mark Reding, Eri Ikeda, Xiang Guo and pianist Jouko Laivuori.
On 23 October the city stages two family-friendly events. Minna Leinonen's new miniature opera A Woman's Voice premieres at Koskipuisto as part of the Tampere Light Weeks opening, with soprano Tuuli Takala and the Tampereen Ooppera chorus; entry is free.
That evening Tampere Filharmonia presents The Lost Key, a 45-minute family concert based on Sanna Mander's Finlandia Prize-winning book, featuring conductor and composer Marzi Nyman, narrator Hanna Vahtikari and director Anne Rautiainen.
The month closes on 30 October with Mario Venzago conducting the Finnish premiere of his own Ulisse. The programme also includes Brahms's choral piece Nänie with the Tampere Philharmonic Choir, and Mendelssohn's Fifth (Reformation) Symphony. Tickets and pricing are available from Tampere Filharmonia.
The concerts form part of the orchestra's 2026–27 season, announced by the city in May in the season programme.
