Student convicted of embezzling €24,000 from ITU ry, ordered to pay over €27,000
About €24,000 was transferred from the early childhood education student association ITU ry’s bank account to a student’s account; the woman has been convicted and ordered to pay compensation.
About €24,000 disappeared from ITU ry’s bank account between April and early December 2025, according to Aamulehti. A 24-year-old woman who held a responsible role in the Tampere University early childhood education student association admitted transferring the money to her own account.
Pirkanmaa district court handed her a seven-month suspended prison sentence and ordered more than €27,000 in compensation to the association. The court found the theft aggravated, noting she had exploited her position, the sum was large and the misconduct continued for months. It came to light in December when the association's board filed a police report.
She apologised in court and said a gambling problem had undermined her ability to manage her life.
