Survey: Tappara second-most popular but third-most disliked in Finland
A nationwide survey finds Tampere's Tappara is Finland's second-most popular sports club but also ranks third on the most‑disliked list; Ilves is third most popular.
Tappara ranks second and Ilves third on Finns' list of favourite sports clubs, while Tappara is also third on the most‑disliked list. The results come from a nationwide survey of 1,505 sports-following Finns, fielded by Iro Research 9–18 March and published today by new sports outlet Vuohi.
HIFK leads the pack, cited by 11 percent of respondents alongside Tappara; Ilves drew 9 percent. The top ten includes Kärpät, TPS, Jokerit, Saipa and KalPa, while the foreign clubs Dallas Stars and FC Barcelona also make the cut. Other Tampere clubs in the top 50 are Tampereen Pyrintö (22nd) and Manse PP (38th); Markku Korhonen, a Vuohi producer, noted Pyrintö is Finland’s most popular club whose sport lacks elite-level hockey or football.
Jukka‑Pekka Vuori said Tappara’s improved communications and digital marketing have added storytelling to what was once a more mechanistic image. The team performs especially well among women, while Ilves enjoys stronger support across the Tampere region.
Vuohi will ramp up to full operations around May–June; it and Tamperelainen are both part of media group Mediakonserni Keskisuomalainen.
