Ilves, HPK and Kiekko-Espoo top Tamperelainen's latest Liiga power rankings after Ilves' strong preseason form and an earlier summer winning run.

Ilves, HPK and Kiekko-Espoo feature at the top of Tamperelainen's latest Liiga power rankings ahead of the SM-liiga regular season in September. The ranking follows Ilves' strong preseason, including a warm-up at Hakametsä their Hakametsä warm-up and an earlier 11-game winning streak over the summer their summer winning run.

The rankings focus on current form rather than championship odds. Ilves' defence stood out: three preseason games without conceding and just two goals allowed in four regular-time outings. HPK impressed with strong preseason displays and a Pitsiturnaus win, their new foreign signings such as Brendan Ranford fitting in and a goalkeeper regarded as league-class. Kiekko-Espoo has benefited from experienced returnees, a larger player budget and a favourable start with three straight home games.

Tappara's title window remains focused on spring, though new coaching gives them more leeway early on. KalPa could challenge if key players stay healthy. HIFK and Jokerit offer attacking upside and renewed depth, but both face questions about consistency after major roster overhauls. At the other end, Lukko's winless preseason raises concern and KooKoo may feel the strain of CHL commitments. Teams such as JYP, Pelicans and Jukurit showed mixed signals and could be wild cards in the opening weeks.
