TAMK Staff Stage One-Day Strike After 18 OAJ Warnings
Tampere University of Applied Sciences will hold a one-day strike on Thursday after the Trade Union of Education issued 18 strike warnings this spring, with picket duty and a morning strike event planned at the main campus.
Tamperelainen reports that the Trade Union of Education in Finland (OAJ) — which has issued 18 strike warnings this spring — has called a one-day walkout at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) on Thursday, with picket duty and a strike event planned at the main campus in the morning. The action involves OAJ and the union for senior salaried employees, YTN, and follows a collective bargaining process that collapsed in March without a new agreement. TAMK also participated in the first wave of strikes in April alongside Metropolia. Kaj Raiskio, OAJ’s organizing manager, said the aim is to ensure universities of applied sciences can attract top professionals — a benefit for students, businesses and society — and that fair pay and decent working conditions are needed to achieve that. OAJ says it will continue seeking a solution through conciliation led by the national conciliator.
