Tamp City Shot Bar on Hämeenkatu has turned short drinks into crafted mini‑cocktails and plans to expand to Helsinki after just over a year in business.
The bar’s Polish owners, Klaudia and Mateusz Staszak, have traded Jäger bombs for colourful, layered shots and seasonally changing cocktails made with house-made syrups and infusions. Their bestselling cocktail is Hämeenpuisto. It mixes vodka with melon, passionfruit, lemon and sparkling wine. Playful shot names on the menu include Ottoautomaatti, Hesburger, Ilves and Tappara. Shots measure about 4–5 cl and sell for 6–8 euros; sets such as the three-shot Angry Birds cost 15 euros, while a staff-selected four-shot Meet Our Staff is 25 euros.
The couple say the shot concept is more profitable than beer bars, because customers can buy several drinks in the time it takes to sip a half-litre. After an expensive first year that included a closed basement nightclub, they now run Tamp City with a slim team and packed Saturdays, typically 400–600 visitors and up to 2,800 during big student events. They hire award-winning bartenders and still aim to grow beyond Tampere. These details were reported by Tamperelainen. Their expansion plans come as venue owners warn that tighter budgets and changing habits are squeezing Tampere's nightlife earlier coverage.
