Gastropub Fenno to Open in Kyttälä, Serving Sahti and Classic Finnish Dishes
Fenno, a new gastropub in Kyttälä, will open next week serving traditional Finnish dishes and Finnish drinks such as sahti; the target opening date is 8–10 September.
Fenno opens next week in Kyttälä at the corner of Tuomiokirkonkatu and Otavalankatu, with a target opening date of Tuesday 8 September or, at the latest, Thursday 10 September, Tamperelainen reports.
The new gastropub will serve traditional Finnish dishes such as Karelian stew and pies, vorschmack, reindeer and other seasonal plates. It aims to attract local diners, hotel visitors and business and conference guests. Drinks will come mainly from Finland and include craft beers on tap and in cans, sahti (a traditional farmhouse ale), vodkas, digestifs and berry-based dessert wines from domestic distilleries. The menu will change with the seasons and a daily special will be written on a chalkboard. Fenno will be open weekdays from 4 PM to midnight and weekends from noon to midnight. There will be no lunch service at launch. Sami Lappalainen says the idea grew from requests by nearby hotels and a renewed interest among younger diners in Finnish food traditions.
The opening comes amid a busy spell for Tampere's restaurant scene, following recent newcomers such as Suoma at the Finnish Club earlier this year and Wine Spot on Kuninkaankatu in June.
