Tampere appoints Kati Skippari as Environmental Director
Kati Skippari is named Tampere's environmental director, Tamperelainen writes.
She has served as interim environmental chief for about a year after the retirement of the previous director, guiding the service group through negotiations and unit consolidation.
Skippari describes a lifelong commitment to protecting the environment, dating back to a youth awakening in Ylöjärvi and studies in biology, ecology, hydrobiology and environmental protection. She began in water protection before moving into regulatory work and says she hopes to influence the environment, people and nature’s well-being through her new role.
The Sustainable City service group now includes an environmental monitoring and regional waste management unit responsible for official duties and decision preparation. At the same time, the city is updating climate and environmental policy guidelines, the biodiversity LUMO program, and a broad nature protection-area program, with the city hall set to discuss them in March.
