Tampere approves €750,000 to expand Kauppi–Niihama mountain‑bike trail network
Tampere will invest €750,000 to expand mountain‑bike trails and improve outdoor recreation services in the Kauppi–Niihama area, with work planned between 2026 and 2028.
The funding follows a development plan by Ekokumppanit Oy and will be used to fill gaps in the local service network and extend the trail system, Tamperelainen reports. It builds on the city's 2026 plan to upgrade outdoor recreation services in Kauppi–Niihama the June plan and aligns with the 2026–2040 nature protection programme that adjusted protection zones in the area the nature protection programme.
The allocation is split: €150,000 in 2026, €400,000 in 2027 and €200,000 in 2028. The city will carry out the work based on Ekokumppanit’s preliminary cost estimate and implementation plan. Because Ekokumppanit is a linked city affiliate, no competitive tendering was required. A formal procurement contract will be signed to begin the project, and the measures are guided by the outdoor recreation service programme for 2026–2035, which the housing and real estate board approved in 2025.
