Tampere awards €4,000 to Kaivo‑oja for European boxing silver, €3,000 to Harju for orienteering bronze
Tampere will award Pihla Kaivo‑oja €4,000 for her European boxing silver and Venla Harju €3,000 for her European orienteering bronze.
Pihla Kaivo‑oja will receive €4,000 for her silver in the 54‑kilogram boxing division at the European Championships in Sofia in September 2026. Venla Harju will receive €3,000 for a middle‑distance orienteering bronze at the European Championships in Druskininkai the same month, the City of Tampere said.
Kaivo‑oja represents Tampereen Voimailuseura and Harju represents Tampereen Pyrintö. The board said Harju’s prize was justified by orienteering’s strong national standing, high esteem and competitive level. Both awards follow Tampere’s 2025 reward principles for sporting success. Those principles recognise international achievements by local athletes and underline their importance to the city. Agendas and minutes are available in the city’s records.
The board considered the awards earlier this week when it met to decide the payments. Harju's bronze in Druskininkai was first reported in October when she won surprise bronze in the middle distance.
