Tampere board to consider €3,000 and €4,000 awards for Harju and Kaivo‑oja on Monday
Tampere city board will decide Monday whether to award Venla Harju €3,000 for her European Orienteering Championships bronze and Pihla Kaivo‑oja €4,000 for her European Boxing Championships silver.
Tampere city board will decide on Monday whether to award Venla Harju a €3,000 personal recognition prize for her European Orienteering Championships bronze in Druskininkai on 26 September. The board will also consider a €4,000 prize for Pihla Kaivo‑oja after her European Boxing Championships silver in Sofia on 25 September.
The recommendation, Tamperelainen reports, follows the city board's sports reward principles, which set a €4,000 sum for an individual sport European silver and allow €3,000 for a bronze. Harju competes for Tampereen Pyrintö and Kaivo‑oja represents Tampereen Voimailuseura. If approved at Monday's meeting, the payments would be drawn from the board's stipend and prize budget.
The move follows Harju’s surprise European bronze in the middle distance earlier this month Venla Harju’s European bronze. It also echoes broader funding decisions earlier this year, when Tampere approved nearly €3 million in grants for sports and youth associations the council’s March sports grants decision. Final decision is due Monday.
