The Tampere Civil Guard and Lotta Museum has moved to Manttaalitalo in Lempäälä and will reopen as Pirkan Perintö on 9 September; most of its more than 3,000 items will be placed in temporary storage because the new premises are about half the size.

The Tampere Civil Guard and Lotta Museum has moved from Tammela's Väinölänkatu to Manttaalitalo in Lempäälä and will reopen under the name Pirkan Perintö on 9 September, Aamulehti reported. The new premises are about half the size of its former Tampere location, so a large portion of the more than 3,000‑item collection will be placed in temporary storage.

Space is tight.

The museum is run by a volunteer association. It plans to open a few times a month for groups and for individual bookings, and is exploring loans and partnerships with other Pirkanmaa museums so stored items can still be shown.

Vice-chair Juhani Männistö said the name change is meant to signal that the museum represents Civil Guard history across Pirkanmaa, and that Manttaalitalo, a former local Civil Guard house, ties the building's history to the displays.

Many items were not on display even at the Tampere site. Among the collection's rarities is the original staff and flag of the Ikaalinen Civil Guard from 1918. The museum is particularly interested in acquiring complete personal ensembles, such as service uniforms, medals, certificates, photographs and letters from the front, from local families.
