Tampere opens first accessible fishing platform in Hervanta
Tampere has opened an accessible fishing platform along the Mielenreitti trail in Hervanta, with level access, benches and a lowered railing designed for seated anglers.
Located along the 2.3-kilometre Mielenreitti trail, the platform offers level access, benches and a lowered railing for seated anglers. The city confirmed the platform is finished and open to visitors.
It is part of a wider plan to add accessible fishing piers at several locations, following the city's August announcement to bring piers to Eteläpuisto, Kaukajärvi and Suolijärvi.
The Mielenreitti route includes a 1.7-kilometre accessible section designed to let more people enjoy outdoor activities. Accessibility specialist Erkka Ikonen of EcoFellows Ltd said the stretch from the beach parking area to the platform is about 400 metres with an even seven-metre elevation change. He added the path can be used by wheelchairs.
Visitors arriving by bus should note the nearest stop is roughly 600 metres away; the steep downhill between the stop and the parking area drops about 15 metres over 200 metres.
EcoFellows planned and largely implemented the platform. City officials say similar accessible fishing sites will be rolled out across Tampere by autumn 2026.
