Tampere Parents Unveil Six-Point Anti-Bullying Pact
Aamulehti reports that about 70 people attended a Tampere region parents’ evening on January 20 to discuss anti-bullying work, culminating in a six-point pledge emphasizing responsibility at home and clear school procedures.
A Tampere city press release notes that a safe school day begins at home, where respect for others and acceptance of differences are learned, and that the pledge calls on schools to ensure that students, parents, and staff know how bullying incidents are handled. Niina Mäkilä-Koskinen, an anti-bullying project worker, says that every child should be met warmly at school because such encounters build a sense of security, and when a child feels safe, they dare to report bullying. Parents also expressed expectations that schools communicate with fairness, openness, speed, and firmness, while Jenny Saksola of the Parents' Association highlights the importance of families taking responsibility in promoting safe school life. The pledge will serve as a basis for future projects aimed at strengthening home–school cooperation, and the event was organized by three anti-bullying initiatives: Towards a Safe School Path, Bullying-Free South Pirkanmaa, and Towards a Safe School for the Tampere City Region.
