Candidates and lists contesting Tampere's parish elections will debate church tax, efforts to combat loneliness and ties to Manse Pride at a public panel on Monday, 26 October at 6 p.m. in Aleksanterin Church.

A parish election panel will take place on Monday, 26 October at 6 p.m. in Aleksanterin Church, co-hosted by the Tampere Evangelical Lutheran Parish Union and Tamperelainen.

Panelists will discuss the church’s core mission, whether church tax should rise if parish finances tighten, the role of congregations in combating loneliness, and whether partnerships with Manse Pride should continue.

Each list that has candidates in all four Finnish-language parishes will be represented by one speaker. The Living Church and Church of Encounter lists will also have commentators; they field candidates only in Messukylä.

Dean Olli-Pekka Silfverhuth will open the evening, and the discussion will be moderated by Tamperelainen editor-in-chief Petteri Mäkinen and communications specialist Eva Wäljas. The event will be streamed live at tamperelainen.fi.

Advance voting runs from 3 to 7 November, and election day is Sunday 15 November; voters who have turned 16 by election day may cast a ballot. An orange ballot is used for parish council candidates and a white ballot for the joint church council.

The event is part of the run-up to the parish elections; previous coverage includes nominations and voting the parish election timetable and a rise in younger candidates the increase in under‑30 candidates.
