Candidates for Tampere parish elections must be confirmed church members and 18 by election day; advance voting is 3–7 November and Tampere has more than 125,000 eligible voters.
Tamperelainen reports: Candidates must be confirmed church members and 18 by election day, while voting is open to church members aged 16 or older. Tampere has more than 125,000 eligible voters. The election will fill 51 seats on the Tampere joint church council and between 8 and 16 seats on each local parish council; these bodies oversee parish activity, finances and property.
Tapani Rantala, head of the Tampere parish union, says the councils' choices directly affect how church taxes are used and shape the development of parish services. Advance voting takes place 3–7 November in all Evangelical Lutheran Church parishes in Finland.
