Tampere puts public art on the map with interactive city app feature
Tampere Art Museum has added an interactive public-art map to the Tampere.Finland city app. The feature centralises records, images, quizzes and 3D models for residents and visitors to explore.
Tampere Art Museum has launched an interactive public-art map inside the Tampere.Finland city app, gathering the city's public art records, images and new digital content in one place for residents and visitors to explore.
The platform includes quizzes, themed routes, reflection prompts for adults and children, user-submitted art memories and 3D models of works. Users can view content on site or from home. They can also contribute their own memories and meanings to the collection.
The service responds to frequent public queries and a long-standing need to centralise information about Tampere’s large and historically important public art collection, the museum said. Residents helped shape the features through the Tampere Council, contributing memories and personal reflections that will appear as part of the content.
The project received a €45,000 grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture. It was developed as a pilot within the EU x-CITE programme. Instructions and further information are available on the Tampere Art Museum website.
The launch follows recent city arts initiatives, including draft plans to improve streets and the park around the Tampere Art Museum and neighbourhood-led community art projects this autumn. Together these efforts aim to make the museum area more accessible and better connected to public artworks.
