Draft street plans for the Tasanteen interchange area – covering Tasanteenväylä, Tasanteenkatu and Aitolahdentie – are on public display until 2 November 2026.

Draft street plans for the Tasanteen interchange area in Tampere are on public display until 2 November 2026. The proposals cover Tasanteenväylä, Tasanteenkatu and Aitolahdentie, and were published by the City of Tampere.

At the heart of the plans is a new Tasanteenväylä that will link the future Highway 9 interchange to the Aitolahdentie roundabout. The carriageway will be 7.5 metres wide, with a 40–50 km/h speed limit and a new underpass. A roundabout is planned where Tasanteenväylä, Tasanteenkatu and Aitolahdentie meet, with bus stops on both sides to steer through-traffic from Aitolahdentie onto Highway 9.

Tasanteenkatu’s alignment will be partly altered. Its carriageway will be 7 metres wide with a 30 km/h limit, and a 4-metre combined cycleway and sidewalk will run on the east side. A raised pedestrian crossing will be added at the north end, and a 26-space public parking area will sit on the west side.

Aitolahdentie will receive 3–4.5 metre combined cycleways and sidewalks on both sides, a 7–7.5 metre carriageway and a 40 km/h speed limit. The existing underpass will be removed and a new one built beside it.

The plans take local flying squirrel populations and existing trees into account and aim to preserve woodland where possible. Lost vegetation will be replaced with new plantings and meadow strips created along Aitolahdentie. Noise barriers and rails are included, and street lighting will be renewed. Construction could start no earlier than 2027.

Residents saw the materials at a planning event on 23 September 2026, which followed the public drop-in on 23 September that introduced the draft plans. The documents are available online and at the Tampere service point until the exhibition period ends on 2 November 2026.
