Draft street, walking and cycling plans for the Tasanteen interchange – including a green bridge and a new roundabout – will be presented at a public drop-in on 23 September at Koilliskeskus library.

Draft street, walking and cycling plans would reshape local travel routes and greenspace around Tasanteen. Residents can see the designs at a public meeting on 23 September at Koilliskeskus library.

The proposals are tied to improvements on Highway 9. The Finnish Transport Agency is handling the highway work while the city designs new streets, parks and pedestrian and bicycle connections that integrate with the surrounding network. The draft reroutes links between Aitolahdentie and Tasanteenkatu, proposes a new roundabout at their junction and adds a road into the Tasanteen interchange. Noise walls and protective railings along Aitolahdentie aim to reduce disturbance to nearby properties.

The current underpass used by the Niihama–Atala outdoor trail at the interchange will be removed and replaced by a green bridge north of the junction to carry the trail over the highway. The local ski route will remain largely in its present location, although small adjustments to underpasses are included. Parts of the new street layout extend into existing forest areas. Construction could begin as early as 2027.

The open event is Wednesday 23 September at Koilliskeskus library, Multi-purpose Space Kivi (Liikekatu 3). Designers and a neighbouring-area planner will be available between 16:30 and 18:30. Short general presentations are scheduled at 16:30 and 17:30, and visitors may drop in at any time to view the plans and speak with the project team. More information is available about Highway 9 improvements between Alasjärvi and Käpykangas.
