Tampere Scrambles to House 100 New Hakametsä Students
Tampere must find temporary premises for about 100 students of the new sports-focused Hakametsä upper secondary school next autumn after zoning delays pushed the permanent campus opening toward 2030.
YLE reports Tampere must find temporary space for about 100 students of the sports-focused Hakametsä upper secondary school next autumn. The planned campus was delayed by appeals and the city's zoning plan was confirmed only in April – a setback that has pushed the building schedule back and makes an opening before autumn 2030 rather than 2027 unlikely, following the zoning approval earlier this spring. City officials say finding suitable temporary premises for the next three years has proved harder than expected. Assistant Mayor Jaakko Mustakallio said the city is urgently searching for options. "All options are on the table," he added, including using facilities attached to other schools or converting commercial premises. Any site must be easily reachable by public transport as student numbers rise and demand for upper secondary places in Tampere grows.
