Tampere seconds internal audit chief to oversee sports services reforms
Tampere will strengthen support and monitoring of its sports services for six months by seconding the head of internal audit to ensure reforms after 2023 misconduct are fully implemented.
Support and monitoring for Tampere's sports services will be strengthened for six months to ensure reform measures are fully implemented.
The move follows a broad development programme launched after misconduct uncovered in 2023. It also follows a May city audit that warned Tampere had reached just 53% of its 2025 targets and highlighted the need for stronger controls the city audit in May. Clubs were told to brace for tighter budgets and changes to facility use earlier this year a May forum on club finances and facility planning.
The programme has standardized operating practices, bolstered supervisory work and tightened controls. But this year's internal audit found some routines still fall short of the city's guidelines, notably in working time management, procurements and contract handling.
Group Director Juha Yli-Rajala said the city has done a lot but needs determined follow-through to make the changes permanent.
To finish the work, the city will second the head of internal audit to the sports services for six months to support leadership, monitor progress and report regularly to city leadership.
Service area director Lauri Savisaari said most staff perform responsibly and residents will not see disruptions. Sports facilities and booked time slots will remain in normal use throughout the development period.
