Tampere Secures Nearly €3 Million for Youth Hiring

The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Uusimaa has granted Tampere city 2.93 million euros for youth recruitment efforts. The discretionary funding is available to employers and can be applied for through early January 2027, subject to available funds. Tampere City acts as the lead authority for the Tampere region's employment area and oversees contract negotiations, with the funds to be allocated equitably among the region's municipalities. Eligible youths must meet one of two conditions: have been unemployed for at least six months in the last seven months, or have only completed basic education and have been unemployed for at least three months at the time of the contract. Employers from anywhere in Finland may apply, but the hired youth must come from a municipality within the Tampere region's employment area and be a job seeker there. The measure is presented as a major step to ease recruiters' challenges and accelerate youth employment, lowering the recruitment threshold and helping employers find new talent, with the aim of securing lasting work for young people even after the funding ends.

According to Aamulehti, the €2.93 million is part of a national subsidy scheme approved in December 2025 for 2026 and 2027, with access to the funds through early 2027.
