Nearly 100 under-30 residents in the Tampere region have landed jobs after employers began using a revised youth recruitment subsidy in March 2026, according to Tamperelainen. This follows the March announcement that the Tampere region secured nearly €3 million for youth hiring the March funding announcement. Uptake had been slow at first, with just 34 hires by early June a June report said.
In July 2026 the subsidy rules were relaxed to widen eligibility. Associations and foundations can now apply, the minimum contract length was cut from six months to three, and the requirement for a prior unemployment period was removed. Employers anywhere in Finland may hire as long as the person is registered as a jobseeker in the Tampere region employment area.
Hires have appeared across technology, services and restaurants, construction, sales and marketing, and logistics. Lilli Tolvila, a specialist in Tampere’s employment and growth services, said the support has funded roles ranging from assistant tasks to expert positions requiring university degrees. The subsidy can be paid until the end of June 2027. Employers are encouraged to use it in upcoming recruitments.
