Tampere to Ban Parking on Luhtaankatu Stretch After Cars Block Bus Lane
City officials will install no-parking signs on Luhtaankatu between Hevoshaankatu and Kirkkoladonkatu and tighten winter parking rules from 15 November–30 April after residents reported long lines of parked cars blocking a bus lane.
"A continuous line of more than ten cars blocked the lane," residents reported. Tamperelainen says city officials will install no-parking signs on the northern stretch of Luhtaankatu between Hevoshaankatu and Kirkkoladonkatu and tighten winter parking rules, with new restrictions running from 15 November to 30 April. Residents said buses were left waiting behind long queues.
The buildup of roadside parking has forced buses and other oncoming vehicles to stop, creating safety risks for drivers and pedestrians. Officials also noted that some moped riders have been overtaking the parked cars by riding on the sidewalk.
To address the problem, parking prohibition signs will be added along the affected section of Luhtaankatu. Eetunkatu and Pienkodinkatu will have winter parking limited to Wednesdays 9–12 during the winter season, and the same restriction will be added to the southern branch of Hevoshaankatu at the Luhtaankatu junction.
