Tampere to hike on-street parking fees, reclassify Amuri and Kaakinmaa to raise €800,000 a year

Tampere plans to raise on-street parking rates from early 2027, reclassify some neighbourhoods and increase resident permit fees to generate about €800,000 a year.

Under the proposal, zone 1 hourly parking would rise to €3.70 and zone 2 to €2.40. Amuri and Kaakinmaa would be reclassified from zone 3 into zone 2, raising prices in those neighbourhoods, while zone 3 would remain in Kauppi and Hervanta. The city would also extend the maximum parking time in zone 2 to eight hours from the present four and increase resident parking permits to €35 a month starting in 2027.

City officials say the changes are intended to shift longer-term parking into public garages and to keep on-street fees at least as high as parking facility prices. Tamperelainen reports the measures are expected to generate about €800,000 a year.

Parking volumes in the city centre have fallen slightly in recent years. Drivers point to improved public transport, more remote work and construction that has reduced available space. The community services committee will review the full proposal at its meeting next week. The proposal follows the city's longer-term parking strategy to steer long-term downtown parking into underground garages and introduce progressive curbside fees by 2040 the city's June plan.
