Tampere to waive daycare fees for parents who arrange care on staff training day
Tampere will not charge families daycare fees for the city's annual staff training day if parents arrange care themselves and register the absence in eVaka by the deadline.
Families will not be charged for a day of early childhood education if they arrange their child’s care themselves on the city’s annual staff training and planning day and register the absence in the eVaka system by the deadline, Tamperelainen reports.
Daycare units hold one annual joint training and planning day. Normal early childhood education is paused so all staff can participate.
The city will provide places for children at other units on that day, but parents who organize their own childcare and register the absence in eVaka will be exempt from fees.
Fees for regular early childhood education are set based on family income and number of children. The municipal cap for one child in daycare is €335 per month and the minimum monthly fee is €32.
The head of early childhood education in Tampere approved the change.
The decision follows the city's recent budget decision allocating €113.6m for schools and daycares in 2027.
