Tampere allocates €113.6m for schools and daycares in 2027
Tampere's Housing and Real Estate Committee is reviewing a 2027 budget with €113.6m in net investments, keeping school and daycare construction as the top priority.
According to the City of Tampere, the Housing and Real Estate Committee is reviewing the city's 2027 budget, which carries a €113.6 million net investment package that keeps school and daycare construction at the top of the list. This follows the employment subcommittee's approval of a €73.4 million 2027 budget proposal on 2 September.
The committee’s net operating balance is forecast at €189.1 million. Operating income is projected at €290.2 million, mainly from property and land rents and gains on asset sales, while expenses total €101.2 million. Investment spending breaks down into €102.4 million for building projects, €8.5 million for land assets and €2.8 million set aside for the Hiedanranta and Five-Star Centre development programmes. The proposal sits €2.6 million below the city board’s summer spending frame after the southern area swimming hall and the Järvensivu school projects were pushed back.
Deputy Mayor Jaakko Mustakallio said Tampere is trying to balance budget tightening with long-term development and that planned investments will still prioritise schools and daycare centres. The meeting agenda also includes plot reservations in Lahdesjärvi, a site for supported housing in Taatala and plot arrangements related to the Tohloppi Käräjätörmä community village. City leaders have asked service areas to prepare an additional €1 million in savings each, and for corporate administration to find €0.2 million. Together these measures are expected to improve the city’s result by about €3.2 million ahead of the mayor’s final budget proposal and the city council’s November decision.
