Traffic offences in Tampere fell by 1,000 from 2023, according to last year's crime statistics from the Central Finland Police Department, Tamperelainen writes.
Tamperelainen's review of last year's crime statistics shows the total number of traffic offences reported in Tampere and nearby municipalities was 1,000 lower than in 2023 and almost 300 lower than in 2024, with drunk-driving offences down 23% from the previous year.
The decline does not necessarily mean fewer drunk drivers on the roads. The police say the drop may reflect how time is allocated, with patrol work focused on emergencies and less time for proactive monitoring, says the head of the crime prevention division Chief Inspector Pasi Mettälä.
