Police Step Up Patrols at Tampere City Centre: Over 200 Tasks in Three Weeks
Police stepped up visible patrols across Tampere city centre from September 7 to 27, carrying out more than 200 tasks, making 24 arrests and seizing significant quantities of drugs and weapons.
The Police of Inner Finland deployed extra officers across Tampere city centre from September 7 to 27 and carried out more than 200 tasks, Tamperelainen reported. They focused on recurring trouble spots: Koskipuisto, Tammerin puisto, Central Square, the Laikunlava area, Tullintori, the area around the Ratinan shopping centre and the railway station.
Authorities recorded 327 enforcement tasks in Pirkanmaa during the campaign. The police removed 131 people from public places and made 24 arrests. They seized more than 1.4 kilograms of marijuana and slightly over 500 grams of amphetamine. Knives were confiscated and fines were issued.
Commissioner Petri Kollanen, head of Tampere’s field unit, said visible patrols are needed and that officers will continue to patrol the city centre when emergency duties allow. The campaign follows an earlier operation in May that had the same aim after a three-week May patrol.
