Tampere Tram Team Finishes Ninth in Warsaw, Polamo Named Best Female Driver
Tampere's tram driving team finished ninth at the European Tram Drivers' Championship in Warsaw, and Hilda Polamo was named the competition's best female driver.
Tampere's tram driving team placed ninth at this year's European Tram Drivers' Championship in Warsaw, Tampereen Raitiotie Oy said.
The event tested vehicle handling, precision and concentration. Drivers faced a series of challenges: tram bowling, a perfect stop task, speed management, precision braking and a new basketball-style accuracy exercise.
The squad included drivers Hilda Polamo and Marek Hilvo, with supervisor Hanna Hurri serving as coach. All three work for VR, which operates Tampere's tram service. Polamo scored 3,035 points, the highest total among female competitors.
The Warsaw contest drew 26 teams from across Europe, plus a guest team from Melbourne. It was Tampere's best result to date. The city first entered the event in Frankfurt in 2024, finishing 12th, and placed 20th at the world championship in Vienna in 2025. The trip followed the team's earlier announcement that they would compete in Warsaw in September.
