Tamperemissio Launches City Pocket Tower in Tampere
Tamperemissio has completed a nine-storey hybrid office-residential tower at the corner of Kyttälä Street and Cathedral Street in Tampere, creating Tampere’s largest urban pocket with a rooftop terrace and the Yhteys artwork.
Tamperelainen reports that Tamperemissio has just completed a hybrid office-residential tower at the corner of Kyttala Street and Cathedral Street in Tampere, unveiling a city pocket with a rooftop terrace and a prominent Yhteys public art installation, according to Tamperelainen.
The nine-story building houses 91 apartments alongside offices and retail spaces. Rental flats occupy floors 3 and 4 and part of floor 2, while homes for sale line floors 5–9. Ground-floor premises host shops and shared facilities, including the Onni and Leo restaurant, which opens on May Day. The second floor houses Tamperemissio's offices, and the ground floor provides an open meeting space. The inner courtyard is shared with three other operators in the block, and the building takes its name from the former Kalle Nikama short goods shop that stood on the site.
On the roof, Tampere's newest sauna complex combines a large sauna, a roof-wide terrace, and a club room with a kitchen. The Yhteys artwork by ROP anchors the urban pocket, which Tamperemissio promotes as Tampere's largest. Ilkka Ojala, a Tamperemissio board member and project lead, says discussions with BST-Arkkitehdit Oy guided the design, but the team enjoyed wide latitude, with one instruction: the building must look like something he would be proud to walk by.
